The play revolves around Ethel and Norman Thayer, who have spent the past 48 summers on Golden Pond. This year, their adult daughter Chelsea visits, along with Bill ,the new man in her life and his 13-year-old son Billy.

CAST REQUIREMENTS: (4 Males, 2 Females)

Norman Thayer (Male): A retired college professor, who describes himself as older than dirt. Set in his ways, hard to get along with but with a a dry wit. He enjoys having fun at others' expense. He uses his wit and intellect to mask his growing insecurities about his abilities.

Ethel Thayer (Female): Norman's wife, several years younger. She is outgoing, content and adores her husband but knows his faults. She tries to take the rough edges off his personality. She is Intelligent, well grounded, seems to defer to Norman on many issues but does not lose her own identity so ultimately she gets her way.

Chelsea Thayer (Female, 40s): Only daughter of Norman and Ethel. She has a difficult relationship with Norman and feels that Ethel always takes Norman’s side of things. She has been married before, no children and is newly engaged to Bill. She is a bit trepidatious to step mothering Billy Ray.

Charlie Martin (Male): The only native of Golden Pond, Maine. Close in age to Chelsea, always had a crush on her but sees her now as a pretty, mysterious city girl, fascinated and a bit intimidated by her. He is the mailman for Golden Pond, and is quite jolly laughing at almost everything even slightly funny (Perhaps to cover up his insecurities?).

Bill Ray (Male): Chelsea’s new fiancé, a dentist, divorced and with a thirteen year old son. He is pleased with the recent developments in his life, a fiancee and a son about to come live with him.

Billy Ray (Male): Thirteen years old. Precocious and worldly for his age. He is intelligent, but suspicious and guarded. He has not spent a lot of time with his father, or any male role model. Billy recognizes that he has been passed back and forth between his parents out of necessity, but has not really been raised by either of them. He is about to start living with his father and Chelsea. He and Norman develop a chemistry.
