4th Wall Theatre will hold open auditions for all roles in Geoffrey Nauffts’ Next Fall. The play was a 2010 Tony Award and Drama Desk Nominee. Next Fall will be directed by Gwen Ricks-Spencer. The show will be presented at The Westminster Arts Center in Bloomfield, NJ, where the company is in residence as well as the Irvington Town Hall Theatre in Irvington, New York. Rehearsals will begin in December with a holiday break and resume in January, and the performances are scheduled for March 6, 7, 8 in Irvington, NY, and March 13, 14, 15 in New Jersey.
About the Show: Geoffrey Nauffts' Next Fall takes a witty and provocative look at faith, commitment and unconditional love. While the play's central story focuses on the five-year relationship between Adam, a confirmed atheist, and Luke, a devout Christian, it goes beyond the typical love story. Following a serious accident, Adam must reassess his views and seek support from Luke’s family and friends. Next Fall is a timely and compelling new American play that forces us all to examine what it means to "believe" and what it might cost us not to.
Auditions are scheduled for Tuesday, December 9 and Wednesday, December 10, at New Jersey School of Dramatic Arts (downstairs at 593 Bloomfield Avenue, Bloomfield). Auditions will begin at 7:00pm. Sign-in will start at 6:30 and end at 8:00pm.
4th Wall is seeking 4 men and 2 women. All roles are open and non-traditional casting will be strongly considered. Prepare a short monologue from contemporary theatre. Sides from the script will be available at the auditions. Also bring a headshot and resume stapled together, and be prepared to provide all potential conflicts for evening and weekend rehearsals beginning December 16. Rehearsals will not take place over the Christmas holiday. No pay.
Character Break Down (* All ages are flexible)
Adam (40-45) An atheist and a hypochondriac with a sharp, witty mind but an inability to trust his own happiness
Luke (late20s/ early 30s) Born-again gay Christian, attractive, innocent, aspiring NY actor. Luke just wants Adam to believe in God (so he won’t go to hell).
Arlene (50ish) Luke’s mother, a reformed wild-woman of Southern-fried eccentricities.
Butch (50ish) Hard nosed, right wing, Southern born-again Christian. He is Luke’s homophobic father, who believes in Creationism. He raised Luke after he found God while his mother, Arlene, continued to party.
Holly (30-40) A candle store owner and Adam’s best friend and confidante. Her faith resides in self-help groups and 12 step programs. She is compassionate and witty.
Brandon (20-30) A successful friend of Luke’s. Deeply religious, reserved and serious. He has even deeper issues with his homosexuality than Luke and is unaccepting of his friend’s relationship with Adam.

The school is located in the PNC Bank building on the corner of Broad St. and Bloomfield Ave., Bloomfield NJ. The entrance door is on the Bloomfield Ave. side of the building. There is a sign to the right of the door. Enter and go down the stairs to the right.
NJSDA can be reached by NJ Transit trains (Montclair Boonton Line – Bloomfield stop) or the DeCamp Bus lines #88, #33 (Broad & Liberty Street is the stop), or the #44 (Montgomery & Franklin St. is the stop).
There are a number of NJ Transit buses that service the area as well from various points in NJ.
