Arvada Center General Audition Guidelines:
I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS
Auditions for the world premiere musical, I’ll Be Home for Christmas are July 25 and 26 (Chorus Dance Call is July 22), and in New York City, on August 4, 2016. Denver Callbacks are scheduled for July 29. The Arvada Center production will be directed by Gavin Mayer with musical direction by David Nehls, choreography by Kitty Skillman Hilsabeck. The Producing Artistic Director of Musicals is Rod A. Lansberry.
Adult Principal and Chorus:
Colorado Principal/Chorus auditions are on July 25 and 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., by appointment only. The Women’s Chorus dance call is 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., and Men’s Chorus dance call is 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. on July 22. All dance calls are by appointment only and dancers may be asked to sing. Call the Arvada Center Box Office at 720-898-7200 to schedule an appointment time. Please do not contact the production staff to schedule an appointment. Actors must be 18 years & older to audition.
General Audition Requirements:
Experienced performers with strong acting and singing abilities are needed. Good dancing abilities are required including tap. See the character breakdown (below) for specifics on available roles. Actors should prepare 16-32 bars from a song appropriate to the style of a 1960s TV variety show (such as Andy Williams, Perry Como and Judy Garland live Christmas shows). Please bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. Recorded music or a cappella audition will eliminate casting consideration. A current headshot and résumé are required. Audio and video submissions will not be considered. Equity members must have a current equity ID card. This is an Equity LORT B production, non-equity actors will be considered. Individuals of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds are needed and encouraged to audition for all roles.
New York Auditions:
Wojcik/Seay Casting will coordinate the New York City auditions, to be held on August 4, 2016. To be considered for a New York audition, mail a hard copy of your headshot and résumé and indicate the role you are interested in (if known) to the following address:

Rehearsal and Performance Dates:
Rehearsals for I’ll Be Home for Christmas begin on Tuesday, October 25. The production opens Friday, November 18 and runs through December 23, 2016. Performances are Tuesday through Saturday evenings with matinees on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays for a total of eight shows per week.
Character Breakdown
Dana Bright- father of the bright family, mid 40's-50's, a typical old school hoofer with a great sense of old time comic timing. Tenor/baritone. Think Dan Daily, Gene Kelly, masculine patriarch stuck in the show business era of the 1940s/50s. Strong tap and good vocals necessary.
Louise Bright- mother of the bright family. Mid 40's-50's, former big band singer, all around girl next door with a gorgeous, velvet voice. Think Doris Day, Rosemary Clooney, Dinah Shore. Very grounded.
Simon Bright- oldest son of the Brights, 23-26, former teen idol, think Ricky Nelson. Just returned from a year in Vietnam so slightly brooding. Rock tenor and guitar playing a plus.
Maggie Bright- young daughter of the bright family. 18-22, a sassy dancer with a bundle of energy. Think Ann Margaret, Mitzi Gaynor, Sandra Dee. Must be great dancer including tap.
Carol Marie- Comedienne and guest star on the show, 40's-50's. Vaudeville humor with a big belt voice. Think Rose Marie, Totie Fields, Betty Garrett. Also sings a heartbreaking ballad in Act 2, a true star.
Len Ramble- country singer and guest star on the show, 30's. Swaggering southerner with a Hank Williams, Johnny Cash vibe, but Glen Campbell good looks. Guitar playing a plus, baritone vocals.
Sandy- male African-American chorus member who steps into the limelight to save the show, 20-25. Must be extremely strong dancer including tap and singer. An eternal optimist. Very likable.
Ruby- African American floor manager, very bossy and authoritative, 40's-50's. The anchor of the TV show, a bit of a freight train of a personality. Strong singer.
Chorus – 4 women and 4 men – 20’s/30’s – dance including tap, sing and play various small roles.
