Thank you for your interest in auditioning for Frankenstein, written and directed by Will Gurley, and Our Holy Place, written and directed by Kayli Gurley. These shows are produced by the Balladeer Theatre Company at The Culture House.

Callbacks for Frankenstein will be on June 11th, beginning at 5 PM. Callbacks for Our Holy Place will be on June 12th, beginning at 5 PM.

Synopsis:

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, adapted by Will Gurley with additional text by Kayli Gurley, follows a young and ambitious scientist as he attempts to overcome death.

Our Holy Place by Kayli Gurley follows nuns facing off against a vampire as an allegory for the Enemy's attacks on women.

Roles:

Frankenstein:

ELIZABETH: An intelligent, caring young woman and close friend of the Frankenstein family.

FATHER: Victor's father. An aging man who has just lost his wife.

WILLIAM: Victor's 10-year-old brother. Curious and adorable.

OLD MAN: An old blind man. Unconditionally kind, very dry, and deeply caring.

JUSTINE/OTHERS: The Frankenstein family's governess. Still new at the job. A young woman who had so much ahead of her.

PROFESSOR CLERVAL/OTHERS: Victor's college professor. Cautious of Victor's grand ideas. Man or woman.

WALTON/OTHERS: The captain of the ship. A younger man.

FIRST MATE/OTHERS: The first mate. Man or woman.

Our Holy Place:

Anna: A caring, compassionate girl who strives to help others, sometimes too much. Her biggest fear is failing to save those around her. British dialect.

Mercy: A small and sickly girl from an abbey in Romania. She is superstitious and tries to warn the other members of the abbey about The Figure, but is often ignored. She is insecure about being heard and listened to, and often feels hopeless. Hungarian dialect.

Martha: An incredibly cautious and cynical woman. She is devoted to the Church, but has a hard time opening her arms to those outside of her convent. She often lets her emotions get the better of her. British dialect.

Clarissa: A sweet girl who is never content with herself. Anna’s best friend. She is the first to fall under The Figure’s influence and takes on an unsettling, almost mad persona. Her biggest insecurity is her physical appearance. British dialect.

Mother Superior: The head of the abbey, Mother Superior is a wise leader. She always has strong words of advice for Anna in her time of need. Her biggest flaw is that she tends to place too much emphasis on words and can lean toward inaction. British dialect.

Rebecca: The head of the choir. Rebecca is a sweet soul with a love for worship and others. Her biggest flaw is her perfectionism and people-pleasing tendencies. British dialect.

The Figure: The personification of evil. Suave and cunning. British and Hungarian dialects.

All nuns sing in Latin in the choir.

Many actors will be in both shows.

All roles will receive a stipend. You will be notified even if you are not cast.

Rehearsals will run from September 2-October 16 in Overland Park, KS. We will work with the cast to schedule rehearsals.
