AUDITION NOTICE - DOWNRIVER ACTORS GUILD

AUDITIION DATES

Monday, January 20

Tuesday, January 21

(Registration opens at 6:30 pm. Audition begin at 7:00 pm. You must arrive no later than 8:30 to audition. Callbacks will be held on January 22 at 7:00 pm)

THE SHOW

Earthquakes, tidal waves, infernos and the unforgettable songs of the '70s take center stage in this homage to classic disaster films. Featuring the music of Donna Summer, Chicago, Gloria Gaynor, The Captain & Tennille, Stevie Wonder, Barry Manilow, Carly Simon, Queen, The Jackson 5, The Commodores, Bay City Rollers, and many more!

AUDTION REQUIREMENTS

Please read the entire audition notice to be appropriately prepared for auditions.

Casting up to 11 men, 11 women, and 1 youth actor. All parts require strong singing and comedic abilities. Most parts require dance ability/willingness to learn. Ages are approximate. All roles require strong comic timing.

This is a non-Equity, non-paying production. Strong performers of all ethnicities are strongly encouraged to audition. If cast, there will be a participation fee and a current (2019/2020) DAG membership is required.

The rehearsal schedule will be given to everyone auditioning. In addition to filling out the audition form, we are asking everyone to review the schedule and cross out the dates you are not available. If you will be late on a particular date please provide a brief explanation for that date. The rehearsal scheduled can be downloaded
here. Please turn in your rehearsal schedule, with your name printed at the top of the page, with your audition form.

VOCAL AUDITION REQUIRMENTS

Please prepare 32 measures of a song from the show. Please bring an accompaniment track, with no vocals, on your phone/tablet. Please have the music cued before you are called to audition. You may be asked to perform scales to check range. NO A CAPELLA AUDITIONS PERMITTED.

DANCE AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

A dance audition is required for all. Please wear clothing that will allow you to move comfortably, and is not excessively baggy. Please note the following:

All: If you have tap shoes please bring them to auditions/callbacks.

Women: Please wear appropriate dance shoes with a heel.

*Individuals auditioning for the role of Shirley are required to have tap experience and a tap audition is mandatory.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

TED SCHEIDER – Male, 30-50, Baritone (High note: G4)
A professor and disaster expert Non-emotional. Dry. A serious, professorial type. Pop voice to a G. Mix to a B

CHAD RUBIN - Male, 25-40, Tenor (High note: B4)
A handsome and winning man. Pretends to be a player, but is really still heartbroken over the loss of his first love. Tenor with a great Rock/Pop voice. Must sustain a belted B.

SCOTT – Male, 25-40, Tenor (High note: B4)
Goofy guy. A less flirtatious caterer at the casino and Chad’s slightly geeky best friend. Pop voice to a B

TONY DELVECCHIO – Male, 30-60, Baritone (High note: Ab4)
A very unscrupulous but attractive and (sometimes) charming middle-aged man. A schemer. Pop voice to an Ab

MARIANNE WILSON – Female, 25-40, Soprano (High note: F#5)
An attractive and investigative journalist with career goals that conflict with her love life. Insecure underneath it all. Pop style. Great, high pop belt. Has to sustain and F#

SISTER MARY DOWNY – Female, 20-50, Mezzo-Soprano (High note: B5)
An awkward, judgmental nun with a gambling addiction. Great high Gospel/Pop belt.

LEVORA VERONA – African American Female, 30-50, Mezzo-Soprano (High note: E5)
A flamboyant and glamorous faded disco diva. Pushy and sassy but in love with her sweet dog. Gospel/Pop belt. High belt to and E, soprano/gospel notes above that.

JACKIE NOELLE – Female, 30-50, Mezzo-Soprano (High note: D5)
An aging, but still sexy showgirl. Dumb but honest. Mother of Ben and Lisa. Goldie Hawn-esque. Pop belt to a D

BEN / LISA NOELLE – Male or Female, 8-16 (to look 12 or younger), Tenor/Mezzo (High note: D5)
Smart and snarky, Jackie’s twin son and daughter are both played by the same actor. Pop belt preferred. (Actor must be willing to have short hair to achieve 1 of the looks.) Pop belt to a high D

SHIRLEY SUMMERS – Female, 40-70, Alto/Mezzo (High note: B4)
Perhaps heavy set, lovable and jolly Jewish woman. Maury’s dedicated wife, who suffers from a terminal illness. Will be looking for a Jewish accent. Tap dance experience required. Great comedic actress.

MAURY SUMMERS – Male, 40-70, Baritone (High note: G4)
Shirley’s lovable, jolly and dedicated husband.

JAKE - Male, 20-50, Baritone (High note: F)

Tony's personal bodyguard. Imposing, but kid-like underneath. Pop voice to an F.

WEALTHY MAN - 35 and up. Baritone (High note: F)

Uptight but loving to his wife. Slight British accent because of pretentiousness. Sweet pop voice to an F.

ENSEMBLE – Male and Female, 20-60, all vocal ranges
10 - 12 glamorous party-guests/character roles. Strong dance ability preferred. Great comedic chops!
