Building a Character, Building a Collection featuring author Barb Johnson
facilitated by Arin Black

In her debut collection of short stories, More of This World or Maybe Another, former carpenter and author Barb Johnson dazzles with intimate portraits of gritty street youth, fallen heroes, and those who long for a better world. Her characters are complex, critical and cutting, and her prose is as fluid as the Mississippi River. Discussing her recently released book, Johnson will delve into what makes a gripping character and discuss how she builds her stories, piece by piece, into narratives both lighthearted and enduring.

Free and open to the public, the Coffee and Conversation series includes enlightening discussions with noted authors, book signings, question-and-answer sessions, and complimentary coffee provided by the Chateau Coffee Café.

Coffee and Conversation is produced by the Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival and sponsored by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. Books by participating authors are made available by the "Friends of the Library Association" and are for sale/signing during the programs.

Presentations are free and open to the public and held from 7:00-9:00pm at:

Jefferson Parish Library
East Bank Regional Branch
4747 West Napoleon Avenue
Metairie, LA
