Southern Rep Theatre to Present Sarah Ruhl's STAGE KISS
Southern Rep Theatre is pleased to announce details for its upcoming production of STAGE KISS, by Sarah Ruhl, at the Ashé Power House.
"How exciting to kick off our new season with STAGE KISS, a hit romantic comedy by Sarah Ruhl," said Producing Artistic Director Aimée Hayes. "Her plays have always been favorites of our audiences, from IN THE NEXT ROOM (OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY) to THE CLEAN HOUSE, and in this play her exquisite sense of timing and her understanding of romantic longing make for an unforgettable and hilarious romp."
Hayes also performs in STAGE KISS, playing an actress who is cast opposite her former lover (Trey Burvant) long after their disastrous but passionate affair. She continued, "Our creative team is jazzed because the story is structured as a play-within-a play, so we get to see the characters today and in shows set in the 1930s and the 1970s. Audiences will be delighted to observe the backstage shenanigans, creative insecurities, and the humor that are all part of the process of putting together a theatre production. At the helm is director Jason Kirkpatrick, who was last with us for A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. He drives the production with his inspired sense of theatricality and vivid dramatic imagination."
STAGE KISS opens September 19th and runs Thursdays through Sundays through October 10, with previews September 16-18. It is the opening production of Southern Rep Theatre's 2015-16 Mainstage Season.
