After a historic shutdown of all live shows and events over the past year due to COVID-19, Asbury Park Theater Company (APTCo) is thrilled to announce its launch of their 21/22 Season with the APTCo Cabaret Project. While the new company looks for a space of their own, they are happy to be in residence at House of Independents in Asbury Park.We have a mission to produce invigorating theater. Whether it be in the form of original works, reimagining the classics or creating provocative, high-energy musical performances, our projects will delight audiences of all kinds, said William Whitefield, Producing Artistic Director of APTco. This launch of our Cabaret Project will be a chance to for us to start doing just that.APTCos Cabaret Project presents Carter Calvert Sings Patsy Cline at House of Independents on Thursday, July 29 and will feature Broadway star Carter Calvert. Calvert is best known for originating her role in the Tony Award-nominated Broadway musical It Aint Nothin But The Blues alongside Grammy Award-winning jazz vocalist Gregory Porter. The New York Times wrote, Carter Calvert effervesces: her voice echoes chimes in the night and her smoldering grip on Fever is positively dangerous. She is featured on the cast recording and starred in the shows National Tour.Other tours include the title role in Always Patsy Cline opposite Emmy Award-winning actress Sally Struthers, the featured role of Grizabella in the Broadway National Tour of Cats, the European Tour of Smokey Joes Cafe, and an International Tour of Neil Berg's 100 Years of Broadway. Shes received raves for her Off-Broadway work in Forbidden Broadway: Comes Out Swinging and appeared in The Thing About Men opposite Tony Award-nominee Marc Kudisch. She has originated world premiere roles in the musicals Forbidden Vegas, Sparkley Clean Funeral Singers and The Great American Trailer Park Musical.Her regional credits include It Aint Nothin But The Blues at Denver Center Theatre Company, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Crossroads Theatre Company, New Victory Theatre and San Diego Repertory Theater; Annie Get Your Gun (Title Role) and Evita (Title Role) at AlgonquinArts Theatre in Manasquan, NJ; Sunday in the Park with George at Arena Stage; Unsung Cole (And Classics Too) and A Grand Night for Singing at Cleveland Playhouse; Honky Tonk Angels at Cincinnati Playhouse at the Park; I Love You, Youre Perfect, Now Change at Theatre By The Sea; Kiss Me Kate at Theatre Under The Stars; and Pump Boys and Dinettes in Branson, Missouri.Carter has opened for iconic performers including Liza Minnelli, Marilyn McCoo, Chubby Checker and The Temptations. Her TV credits include The David Letterman Show, The Rosie O'Donnell Show, and The Today Show. She is an accomplished actress as well as a popular voice-over artist. Shes been featured in numerous national television and radio commercials.As a recording artist, Carter Calvert & the Roger Cohen Trio debuted at number 13 on the CMJ jazz charts beating out Paul McCartney. Her CD It's A Man's World is climbing the charts, receiving rave reviews and extensive radio play.The APTCo Cabaret Project is very important because it marks the beginning of an official season for us. It is also a project that includes an educational component for adult singer/actors who are looking to create and produce their own cabaret acts, says Whitefield.
