Writers In The Loft Presents Joe Hill With His New Book 'Strange Weather'

What: The Music Hall's Writers in the Loft series again hosts New Hampshire own #1 New York Times bestselling author Joe Hill on Friday, January 12, to discuss his latest book, STRANGE WEATHER: Four Short Novels. This "best book of the year" (Booklist*) comprises four stories in one.

"Rain" occurs on a seemingly ordinary day in Boulder, Colorado, when the clouds open up in a downpour of nails. "Snapshot" is the disturbing story of a Silicon Valley adolescent who finds himself threatened by The Phoenician, a tattooed thug who possesses a Polaroid Instant Camera that erases memories, snap by snap. In "Aloft," a young man takes to the skies to experience his first parachute jump... and winds up a castaway on an impossibly solid cloud. And in "Loaded," a mall security guard in a coastal Florida town courageously stops a mass shooting and becomes a hero to the modern gun rights movement - but under the glare of the spotlights, his story begins to unravel, taking his sanity with it.

Masterfully exploring classic literary themes through the prism of the supernatural, STRANGE WEATHER "pushes genre conventions to new extremes" (New York Times Book Review) while deftly exposing the darkness that lies just beneath the surface of everyday life. The event includes an author presentation and a Q+A moderated by Monte Bohanan, Director of Marketing and Communications at The Music Hall, plus a book signing and a meet-and-greet.

About the Author: Joe Hill is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the novels The Fireman, NOS4A2, Horns, and Heart-Shaped Box, and the prize-winning story collection 20th Century Ghosts. He is also the Eisner Award-winning writer of a six-volume comic book series, Locke & Key.

About the Moderator: Monte Bohanan is the Director of Marketing & Communications at The Music Hall, where he oversees daily operations of event and institutional marketing, and a 22-year veteran of performing arts administration. He is also one of the ghouls behind the Portsmouth Halloween Parade, a community-organized event that attracts thousands of marchers and nearly 20,000 spectators. Most importantly, Monte has a deep, abiding love of all things creepy, crawly, and horrific.

Akin to The Music Hall's anchor literary series, Writers on a New England Stage, Writers in the Loft features bestselling authors in a smaller, more intimate space. The series brings audiences today's top authors, the best of fiction and nonfiction, and award-winners across categories. The evening package includes a reserved seat and bar beverage, author presentation and Q+A, a copy of the book, and a meet-and-greet book signing with the featured writer.

The Music Hall is a performing arts center featuring curated entertainment from around the world in two theaters in its downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire campus - one, a landmark 1878 Victorian theater, designated an American Treasure for the Arts by the National Park Service's Save America's Treasures Program, the other the intimate Music Hall Loft around the corner, recently named "best performing arts venue" by Yankee Magazine and the recipient of the NH AIA award for design excellence.
