William Shakespeare's epic poem, THE RAPE OF LUCRECE, has been adapted for theatrical presentation. Written originally in 1594, it recounts the legendary tale of the beautiful Lucretia and her brutal demise at the hands of Tarquin. It makes its New England debut at the Peterborough Players this Wednesday, September 9th.

Award-winning actor Dan Hodge adapts and performs in this one-man interpretation of Shakespeare's poem, a retelling of a classic Roman myth. Mr. Hodge is a Philadelphia-based actor and director with a strong foundation in Shakespeare and the classics. As an actor, he has performed in over twenty full productions of Shakespeare's plays across the country at Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Michigan Shakespeare Festivals, Lantern Theatre, Two River Theatre Company, and The Old Globe (San Diego). In Philadelphia, he has directed recent acclaimed productions of Macbeth (Hedgerow theatre), The Tempest (Curio Theatre), Richard III (Commonwealth Classics), and Timon of Athens (PAC). Mr. Hodge also co-founded the Philadelphia Artists' Collective, a theatre company dedicated to presenting rarely seen theatrical works. He has won multiple Barrymore Awards and he won the James Whitmore Award while he was an intern at the Peterborough Players in 2002.

The Philadelphia Inquirer calls Hodge's THE RAPE OF LUCRECE, "Astonishing... a tour-de-force performance, riveting and absolutely accessible!"

THE RAPE OF LUCRECE plays from September 9 through 13. Tickets are $39 each. Students (with proper ID) can purchase tickets one hour before any show for $15.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the Box Office at 603-924-7585 or online at PlayersTix.com. The Players accepts MasterCard, Visa or American Express.

THE RAPE OF LUCRECE is sponsored by the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript.
