Peterborough Players brings the World's Finest to Peterborough this Weekend

By: Jan. 17, 2017
As part of their Arts on Screen Season, which includes the world's finest performances streamed in high definition to their theatre on Hadley Road, the Peterborough Players will present 2 screenings this weekend.

On Saturday, January 21st at 1pm, the Players present the Metropolitan Opera's production of Romeo et Juliette. When Diana Damrau and Vittorio Grigolo starred opposite each other in Manon at the Met in 2015, the New York Times said, "the temperature rises nearly to boiling every time Damrau and Grigolo are on stage together." Now they're back as opera's classic lovers in Gounod's lush Shakespeare adaptation. The Bartlett Sher directed production, has already won acclaim for its vivid 18th-century milieu and stunning costumes during runs at Salzburg and La Scala. Gianandrea Noseda conducts.? Romeo et Juliette runs approximately 2 hours and 56 minutes with one intermission.

On Sunday, January 22nd at 1pm, the Players present the Bolshoi Ballet's production of Tchaikovsky's The Sleeping Beauty. In this resplendent and magical classic, the Bolshoi dancers will take us on a dream-like journey through this classic fairytale complete with jewel fairies, a magical kingdom, a youthful princess and a handsome prince in this purest style of classical ballet. The Bolshoi's sumptuous staging with its luxurious sets and costumes gives life to Perrault's fairy tale unlike any other. A must-see! Runtime is approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes with one intermission.

Met HD Live tickets are $25 and Bolshoi Ballet tickets are $20. Each can be purchased by calling the Box Office at 603-924-7585 or online at www.peterboroughplayers.org.
