New Hampshire Theatre Project Portsmouth Presents Scene Study Performances This Weekend
New Hampshire Theatre Project's Youth Repertory Company will present two mid-semester Scene Study performances this weekend,, December 5 & 6, at 7 pm. Admission is free, but reservations are highly recommended and donations are cheerfully accepted.
Now celebrating its 16th anniversary, the NHTP Youth Repertory Company is a pre-professional drama experience for students ages 10-17 who have a serious commitment to the theatre arts. Participants focus on acting techniques during the fall semester, in preparation for spring productions. Scenes and monologues from classic and modern literature will be featured this December.
The Senior Youth Repertory Company will be presenting Eugene Ionesco's Rhinoceros in May 2015. Their December scenes will focus on a variety of absurdist material, including scenes by Tom Stoppard, Harold Pinter, Samuel Beckett, and Ionesco. "It's easy to think of absurdist theatre as being so playful it doesn't need much technique," says director Robin Fowler. "But the exact opposite is true. Mastery of the form requires shifting styles at the drop of a hat, playing multiple characters, and becoming fluent in fast-paced rhythmically specific dialogue."
Under the direction of Meghann Beauchamp, the Junior Youth Repertory Company will present an original version of Galileo by Michael Megliola in April 2015. Junior Company scenes will focus on more traditional classics, including The Diary of Anne Frank, Peter Pan, A Christmas Carol, Les Miserables, and Shakepseare.
