NH Theatre Project Youth Programs Emphasize Technique and Collaboration

New Hampshire Theatre Project celebrates its 30th anniversary and three decades of bringing transformational and educational theatre to the seacoast. 2018-2019 school year programs begin September 19 and include the all new West End Youth Players, NHTP Youth Repertory Company, Tech Troupe, and Coaching. NH Theatre Project programs emphasize the ensemble aspect as well as the process of theatre, and technique rather than "spectacle." There are no "stars" and every team member is equally important to the collaboration.

"There's something in how personal it is. Nobody is there to show off, to make themselves

better by putting others down or to prove themselves to anyone. The people are so humble

and there's this collective drive to support each other and help each other work towards a

common goal. This is so much more than an acting class, and if you join you should know it

will become a staple of your life," explains Connor Adams, a high school senior and returning fourth year Youth Repertory Company member.

NH Theatre Project is a "community theatre" in the European sense, where professionally trained artists choose to work in "community." "The art of theatre provides a compelling model for all aspects of interpersonal communication, so desperately needed in our modern world," says Genevieve Aichele, founder of the program.

The focus is on the process of making theatre and the skills that experience builds for participants are skills gained for a lifetime.

"NHTP is a place completely free of constraints on experimentation and improvisation," says graduating senior Sebastian Logue who has just started his first year at Dartmouth. "It is the only environment I've experienced where I have felt like everybody is totally open with each other and content and comfortable with owning who they really are." Connor Adams continues, "If you join NH Theatre Project, know you're joining so much more than just a show. Go into it knowing you will make some of the strongest friendships of your life and form connections unlike any other."
