London Royal Ballet Presents Trio of Works By Its Founder at River Street Theatre Image

The Royal Ballet brings its celebrations of 70 years at the Royal Opera House to a close with a mixed program of works by its Founder Choreographer Frederick Ashton. This special performance will be presented at the River Street Theatre in Jaffrey on Sunday, June 25 and Monday, June 26. It will be shown as it was produced in London two weeks ago and captured in high definition for cinema.

This gorgeous mixed program demonstrates the great creative vision of Frederick Ashton, Founder Choreographer of The Royal Ballet. The Dream is Ashton's adaptation of Shakespeare's riotous comedy in which a forest sprite plays havoc, armed with a love potion. Symphonic Variations was Ashton's first work after World War II, and one of the Company's first to be performed on the huge main stage of the Royal Opera House, in 1946. With six dancers performing a series of quartets, duets, sextets and solos to Franck's brooding Variations Symphoniques, this seminal masterpiece celebrates the pure beauty of movement. Marguerite and Armand is Ashton's beautiful and emotional retelling of a well-known story, familiar to us through Verdi's opera La Traviata. Ashton famously created this poignant ballet on Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev in 1963.

This Royal Opera trio program will be presented Sunday, June 25 at 1:30pm and 6:30pm. It will also be shown Monday, June 26 at 1:30pm.

Tickets for all Royal Opera House & Royal Ballet screenings are $20 each (students and teachers with ID, $15). Due to the intimate size of the River Street Theatre, it is highly recommended that tickets are purchased in advance. Call the Box Office at 603-532-8888 or go to www.theparktheatre.org to purchase tickets with any major credit card.

The River Street Theatre is located in downtown Jaffrey, New Hampshire at 6 River Street. The River Street Theatre is sponsored by: Grove Street Fiduciary, Coca-Cola, the Board of Trustees of the Park Theatre, Janet S. Grant, Betty Locke, Owen Houghton and the James F. & Fernande Kelly Charitable Trust.
