New Hampshire Theatre Project presents THE TIME MACHINE

By:

New Hampshire Theatre Project presents THE TIME MACHINE ImagePublished in 1895 by Heinemann UK, H. G. Wells' beloved tale of time travel launched his reputation as the father of science fiction and coined the now popular concept of a "time machine." Originally written as a serial frame narrative, the Time Traveller begins his story of adventures 800,000 years into the future with the simple words, "I've had a most amazing time..."

Both hard core sci-fi fans and audiences of all ages will have an amazing time watching Catherine Stewart's evocative chamber theatre adaptation, which retains much of H. G. Wells' original language but adds humor and dialogue that keep the story refreshing and accessible to contemporary audiences. Projections by Stewart and a steampunk-themed set design by Quentin Stockwell enhance the journey.

The Time Machine is sponsored by NHTP's West End neighbors, Heinemann Publishing, along with Pam & James PatRick Kelly, and Threshold Stage Company. Vicki Boyd, Vice-President at Heinemann, says: "The people at Heinemann treasure being part of the greater Seacoast community, a place of such history, arts, and culture. Because we have a number of staff who are particularly interested in theater, we enjoy supporting local theater arts projects. We also have quite a few science fiction fans. And it's a little-known fact that Heinemann was founded nearly forty years ago as a US subsidiary of Heinemann UK, the original publisher of H.G. Wells' classic novel. So it's a pleasure to sponsor NHTP's adaptation of The Time Machine. " Science fiction writer and sponsor James PatRick Kelly will offer a special lecture on H. G. Wells immediately following the 2 pm matinee performance on November 12. "H. G. Wells was one of the founders of science fiction and indeed, the power of his imagination continues to influence all of us to this day. I'm pleased to be able to share my enthusiasm for this masterpiece, with all its inventions and quirks," says Kelly. "The Time Machine is the book that launched a thousand voyages into the future."

The Time Machine features Chris Curtis as the Time Traveller, back onstage after a hiatus of six years. Joining him are Kolby Hume as The Writer, and Kevin Baringer, Teddi Kenick-Bailey and Adam LaFramboise in multiple roles. Genevieve Aichele directs, with lighting design by Tayva Young, set design by Quentin Stockwell, costume design by Fran Bechtold, sound design by Robin Fowler, and projection design by Catherine Stewart.

Based at West End Studio Theatre in Portsmouth, New Hampshire Theatre Project is dedicated to creating compassionate community through the art of theatre.
