Tennessee Rep Presents Their Professional Intern Showcase 5/13-14
By: Gabrielle Sierra
Tennessee Repertory Theatre's 2009 - 2010 Professional Interns will present a showcase of Ben Jonson's Volpone May 13 - 14 at 7:30 pm. This project is a culmination of the skills they acquired over the nine-month internship. The play is directed by Professional Stage Management Intern Brittany Carlton. Professional Costume Intern Emily Hardesty designed the costumes, and Professional Audience Development Intern Barry Honold acted as production dramaturg and marketing associate.
In this darkly comic fable about age-old vices, a sly fox and his parasite exploit the greed of the greedy with embarrassing and hilarious results. The lovable, self-absorbed Volpone and his clever, ambitious servant Mosca have three perfect victims. Each is convinced Volpone will soon die and they have been named his heir. The jealous merchant Corivno violently claws to fulfill his ambitions. The elderly miser Corbaccio will forsake her own blood for the fortune. The silver-tongued lawyer Voltore manipulates language and subverts justice. Will Volpone and Mosca succeed, or is someone playing all sides? Ben Jonson's biting wit and social satire bring this timeless tale of double and triple crosses to life.Tennessee Rep's Internship Program is designed to offer hands-on professional experience to students, graduates, and early career professionals who are pursuing a career in theatre. Interns are offered the opportunity to gain practical knowledge while working with experienced professionals in theatre arts and administration. It strives to offer a program that helps each intern accomplish steps towards their career goals, while also allowing them to observe and experience the general day-to-day workings of a professional regional theatre.
