Nashville Repertory Theatre Seeks New Playwrights

By:

Nashville Repertory Theatre Seeks New Playwrights ImageNashville Repertory Theatre is now accepting submissions for the nationally recognized Ingram New Works Lab through July 24, 2017.

Selected playwrights will develop a new play over the course of their year-long residency. Nashville Rep provides travel and housing to playwrights for monthly trips to Nashville during the year and playwrights write and develop their play under the guidance of Nashville Rep Playwright-in-Residence Nate Eppler and the 2017/18 Ingram New Works Fellow. Past Fellows have included Donald Margulies, Theresa Rebeck, Rebecca Gilman, Christopher Durang, and Doug Wright.

"Many theaters offer lip service to the fostering of new work, but Nashville Rep makes it a core mission through this program," says past Ingram New Works Fellow Doug Wright. "In a climate that forces many young writers to seek a safe harbor in film and television, the Ingram New Works Project makes an enduring case for the viability of theater and the nurturing of new voices."

Ingram Lab playwrights are given the opportunity to connect with the larger community of Nashville artists throughout their residency and will share their new play with Nashville audiences as part of the 2018 Ingram New Works Festival.

"The kind of support Nashville Rep is offering is like nothing else," says Playwright-in-Residence Nate Eppler. "It's a year of dynamic developmental support for your new play, radical hospitality, and a great excuse to come play with us in Nashville. For a full year you have an honest-to-goodness artistic home. Every playwright should apply."

Interested playwrights can visit nashvillerep.org/ingram-new-works for submission guidelines or to apply for the program.

ABOUT THE INGRAM NEW WORKS PROJECT

Nashville Rep's Ingram New Works Project was created with the support of co-founder Martha R. Ingram to provide an opportunity for theatre artists to develop new works for the theatre while in residency at Nashville Rep. The Ingram New Works Project is a locally valued and nationally recognized new play development program that cultivates and amplifies new voices for the stage and expands the creative capacity of Nashville by connecting artists and audiences across extraordinary new works. Since 2009, the Ingram New Works Project has supported the development of over sixty new plays for the stage that have gone on to development, awards, and production across the United States. The continuing journey of each of those plays and playwrights is made possible through the early support of Nashville audiences and artists, and the Ingram New Works Project. The Ingram New Works Project is proudly supported by the Ingram Charitable Fund, National Endowment for the Arts, Metro Nashville Arts Commission, and Tennessee Arts Commission.
