Herbie Hancock to Perform at Schermerhorn Symphony Center 8/22

By: Apr. 12, 2010

Pianist Herbie Hancock, one of jazz music's most celebrated artists, will perform at Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Sunday, August 22, 2010, at 7 p.m. Tickets to the concert are currently available for purchase only to the Nashville Symphony's 2010/11 season ticket holders. Single tickets will be available to the general public beginning July 17, 2010.

From his pioneering work with Miles Davis in the 1960s to his successful solo career, Hancock remains one of America's most influential musicians. Over the past five decades, he has created a singular body of work that draws on elements of jazz, classical, R&B, funk and pop music, yielding a string of artistic and commercial successes. His 1973 album Head Hunters was the first jazz album ever to earn Platinum certification, and his 2007 album The Joni Letters was only the second jazz album ever to win Album of the Year at the GRAMMY® Awards. A 12-time GRAMMY® winner, Hancock comes to Nashville to share music from The Imagine Project, his forthcoming CD collaboration with musicians from across the globe.

Other jazz offerings during the Nashville Symphony's 2010/11 season include the Adams and Reese Jazz Series, featuring performances by saxophonist David Sanborn on October 8, 2010, vocalist Kurt Elling on February 4, 2011, and guitarist Al Di Meola on March 18, 2011.
