After a two-decade absence from the metropolis, legendary German singer Ute Lemper promises a one-of-a-kind performance. Blending the magic of Cabaret, Broadway, and French song, she is guaranteed to captivate audiences. Ute Lemper: From Berlin to Broadway, is part of a Canadian tour that will be presented exclusively at Montreal's Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier on January 28, 2024, and in Toronto at Massey Hall on January 26, 2024.
Ute Lemper's artistic career is nothing short of exceptional. Twice nominated for a Grammy Award and acclaimed worldwide for her performances of Kurt Weill's works and her iconic roles, including Sally Bowles in the original production of Cabaret in Paris and Velma Kelly in the revival of Chicago on Broadway, Ute Lemper has cemented her status as an entertainment icon. Her performances are marked by an irresistible blend of passion, authenticity, and charisma, making her a true pioneer in the world of music and theater.
For her grand return to Montreal, Ute Lemper will perform alongside conductor Francis Choinière and the FILMharmonic Orchestra, a symphonic ensemble renowned for its performances of cinematic music and popular classical works. "When I was approached to produce this concert, I was delighted by the idea of diversifying our programming. It's a great way to showcase our versatility, and a rare opportunity to work with a true icon," says Choinière.
From the very first notes, audiences will be transported through time and space, reliving the golden era of cabaret with songs like Milord and Ne me quitte pas, works by Kurt Weill, and the captivating melodies of Broadway hits with the iconic works Cabaret and All That Jazz. Ute Lemper will weave her magic, performing an eclectic selection of songs spanning the range of her remarkable career, from her roots in Cold War Berlin to her triumphant presence on the stages of Broadway.
