UM Theatre & Dance to Present Cutting Edge Choreography in DANCE IN CONCERT

The UM School of Theatre & Dance celebrates an evening of sophisticated and cutting-edge original choreography in its production of DANCE IN CONCERT, March 23-26 at 7:30 pm at Montana Theatre, PARTV Center, UM campus.

New works conceived by guest artists, students, and faculty from the nationally and internationally renowned UM Dance Program will share UM's beautiful Montana Theatre's stage. Join us in experiencing these seven inspiring new dance works with styles including contemporary modern dance, hip-hop, dance theatre, and multimedia dance fusion.

Highlights of this season's DANCE IN CONCERT include:

CENS###D, created in January by Guest Artist Gesel Mason. Mason's piece uses six UM dance majors for her piece which collides the genres, bodies, and cultures of postmodern dance and erotic dance in order to challenge how female sexuality is perceived, performed, and (re)presented. Mason is a choreographer, performer, educator, arts facilitator, and the Artistic Director for Gesel Mason Performance Projects and an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Urban Dance Artist Marcus White's visceral and topical work, Upstream Transaction. The work examines the local water ecology in Missoula particularly as it relates to possession and ownership. The movement collaborators and White developed raps inspired by local news sources, created rhythmic scores using dancers' bodies and five-gallon water bottles, and explored different modes of expression through the lens of urban dance.

A collaborative work between UM Dance Professor Nicole Bradley Browning and Arizona State University Associate Professor Mary Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald is a dance maker, performer, and educator and was a member of Kei Takei's Moving Earth for nearly ten years. The work that has evolved from this collaboration, Tracing Time, is as an exploration of age, time, and reconnections. It is a privilege to share our stage with these two gifted, mature dance professionals.

Presented in the beautiful Montana Theatre, this breathtaking work by guest artists, faculty, and students should not be missed!
