The Ordway to Welcome A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN Tour

By:

The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts will present the Midwest premiere of A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN to the St. Paul stage March 29-April 3 as part of a 34-city North American tour.

Tickets for the critically-acclaimed Broadway musical start at $37 and can be purchased online at www.ordway.org, by phone at 651-224-4222 or in person at the Ordway ticket office.

A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN is a musical journey celebrating the rock icon and her biggest musical influences-trailblazers like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith, all of whom inspired Joplin to become one of Rock 'n' Roll's greatest legends. Like a comet that burns far too brightly to last, Joplin exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll. Her unmistakable voice, filled with raw emotion and tinged with Southern Comfort, made Joplin a must-see headliner from Monterey to Woodstock. Audiences will enjoy Joplin favorites including "Piece of My Heart," "Cry Baby" and "Me and Bobby McGee," among many others.

The show features Mary Bridget Davies in the starring role. Upon gaining local acclaim for her work in various rock bands, Davies was asked to sit in with Joplin's original band, Big Brother & The Holding Company, as well as legendary blues guitarist Robert Lockwood Jr. Davies received a 2014 Tony nomination for "Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical" after A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN debuted on Broadway.

Conceived, written, and directed by Randy Johnson, A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN features choreography by Patricia Wilcox and musical direction by Tyler Evans. The 2016 North American Tour is presented by Iconic Entertainment Studios in association with Todd Gershwin and Daniel Chilewich. A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN is presented in further association with The Estate of Janis Joplin and Jeffrey Jampol of JAM, Inc.
