THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS Opens Next Month at Old Log Theare

By:

This summer the Old Log Theatre will present the Tony Award nominated musical comedy The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, directed by R. Kent Knutson; music director John Lynn and choreographed by Regina Peluso. A cast of 24, featuring Julia Cook, Jefferson Slinkard, John Paul Gamoke, Whitney Rhodes and Ken Rosen, brings big songs and big hair to the stage in this sassy, spirited and touching musical about a real-life brothel in Texas.

The musical focuses on the town of Gilbert, Texas, where Sheriff Ed Earl has a long-standing relationship with the madam of the Chicken Ranch brothel Miss Mona. When a big-city television show run by Melvin P. Thorpe, comes to Gilbert, the secret of the Whorehouse is exposed and moral outrage calls for the house to be closed. Miss Mona agrees to a temporary closure to quiet the critics, but consents to the annual tradition of hosting the winning team from the Texas A&M-Texas game. An ambush of the party by the television show leads to the end of the brothel and a change in the relationship between Miss Mona and Sheriff Earl. Made popular by the Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds movie, the play is a nostalgic look at a delicate subject, but there's nothin' dirty going on!

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas will preview on June 12, open on June 13, 2015 and runs through August 29, 2015 at the Old Log Theatre in Excelsior, MN. Performances are select Wednesdays at 1:30 pm, Thursdays at 7:30 pm, Fridays at 7:30 pm, Saturdays at 1:30pm and 7:30 pm and Sundays at 4 pm.
