SteppingStone Theatre Ends Run of THE MAGIC POT 5/23

By:

SteppingStone Theatre will end the world premiere of The Magic Pot: Three Tales from China on May 23rd. Script, Music & Lyrics are by Dane Stauffer and is commissioned and produced in collaboration with New York City¹s TADA!

Mei Lin, a young Chinese girl who is feeling unsure of herself, is whisked away by a loving elder¹s storytelling into a world of emperors, magicians and fabulous riches. These tales teach her about life, honesty, and the way to happiness, giving Mei Lin the knowledge and confidence to find her own extraordinary adventure and paving the way to finding her own true path.

The production pays homage to the Chinese tradition of the respected elder teacher passing down the heart's truths to the next generation, full of wisdom from the ages. Created with Steppingstone Theatre¹s extraordinary attention to detail and cultural respect, this production is sure to charm young and old alike.

The Magic Pot: Three Tales From China is a production full of the beauty of an ancient culture, expressed through story and songs created by the renowned Dane Stouffer, who also wrote Tasty Baby Belly Buttons and Stone Soup Feeds the World. The Magic Pot was commissioned and produced in collaboration with New York City¹s TADA! Youth Theater, which will be performing the play in July.

Dane Stauffer worked with Richard Hitchler, Artistic Director of SteppingStone Theatre, and Janine Nina Trevens, Artistic and Executive Director of TADA! to develop the show. Dane says, 'The idea was all Richard's! He approached me with the stories, then Janine, he, and I discussed the concept. I developed a way to link the three sories together, using a character from one of the tales. So, I was inspired by the opportunity! I grew up as a 'theatre kid' at CTC (Children's Theater Company) back in the day, so it is an honor to create opportunities for today's young artists to expand their horizons.'

SteppingStone's productions are professionally created and produced, with talents drawn from the best in the Twin Cities and throughout the U.S. The young actors are rigorously trained, but remain fresh and vibrant, bringing their joy and sense of fun to all SteppingStone¹s productions. Enjoyed by adults as well as children, SteppingStone¹s productions are affordable, high-quality entertainment.
