Pet Shop Boys Come To Hennepin Theatre Trust's State Theatre 9/16

By:

Pet Shop Boys, the innovative British, electronic-dance music duo of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe with more than 50 million recordings sold worldwide, will perform at 8 p.m. at Hennepin Theatre Trust's State Theatre, Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009. Visit www.HennepinTheatreTrust.org or call 1-800-982-2787 for tickets or more information.

In the U.S., Pet Shop Boys are perhaps best known for the widely successful soundtrack to Oscar-winner Neil Jordan's 1992 film "The Crying Game." Featuring Boy George on lead, the title song was produced by Pet Shop Boys with Tennant on backing vocals. In addition since 1986, Pet Shops Boys have had 39 Top 30 singles and 22 Top 10 hits in the UK, including four Number Ones: "West End Girls," "It's a Sin," "Always on My Mind," and "Heart." The duo is now back on the scene with their latest album "Yes" (2009) on the Astralwerks label and a coveted 2009 BRIT Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.

Satiric, intelligent and irreverent-yet somehow strangely affecting, Pet Shop Boys features Tennant on main vocals, keyboards and occasional guitar with Lowe on keyboards and some vocals. The duo has also collaborated with such greats as Dusty Springfield and Liza Minelli. Their far-ranging projects include "Closer to Heaven," a musical with playwright Jonathan Harvey about gay life and societal criticisms and a 2005 soundtrack to the 1925 silent film "Battleship Potemkin."

Pet Shop Boys performs Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009 at 8 p.m. at Hennepin Theatre Trust's State Theatre (805 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, 55402).  Prices are $55 and $40 depending on seating preference and include applicable facility fees. A select number of Gold Circle tickets are also available at $75. Additional service charges may apply. Tickets may be purchased in person at the State Theatre Box Office, online at HennepinTheatreTrust.org, or through Ticketmaster by calling 1-800-982-2787 or at a Ticketmaster Ticket Center.
