Minnetonka Public School Present Celebration of the Arts Beginning 5/14

By:

Minnetonka Schools invite all west metro families to the 1st Annual Celebration of the Arts beginning Saturday, May 14, 2011. For one week in May the halls of the Arts Center on 7 will come alive with the sights and sounds of the visual and performing arts as scores of young creative artists share their talents with each other and with our community.

As an extension of the classroom and fine arts curriculum, this week will enrich not only the
student of the arts but the entire school community, and will celebrate the value of the arts in
the Minnetonka School District. Everyone is invited to enjoy this week long celebration.

"An important aspect of Minnetonka's commitment to educational excellence is the significant
role of the Fine Arts in our overall program," said Superintendent, Dennis Peterson.
"Minnetonka Schools provide an outstanding experience in the Fine Arts from preschool
through high school. Furthermore, our community enjoys the art shows, musicals and concerts
featuring our young artists."

Arts Open House - May 14th 10am -1pm

To open the week-long celebration, Minnetonka schools will host an Arts Open House on
Saturday, May 14th at the Arts Center on 7. Families will be treated to free workshops,
entertainment and art displays. "We'll have plenty of hands-on activities and workshops for
the kids," said Trent Boyum, Celebration Coordinator. "We'll also have a number of artists on
hand demonstrating their techniques, and the wonderful Baldwin Sisters (Guthrie, Skylark
Opera) will present a show called: Demystifying Opera! It will be great fun for the whole family,

and the best part is it's all FREE! This festival is a wonderful opportunity for families to spend
time together and learn more about the arts, and what our district has to offer."
