Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company's PHOTOGRAPH 51 Opens 2012-13 Season Tonight, 10/13

By:

The Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company has announced the opening of their 2012-2013 season tonight, October 13, 2012 with the regional premiere of Photograph 51.

Photograph 51 tells a bittersweet story about ambition and the quest for greatness and is the story of Rosalind Franklin who did much of the fundamental work in uncovering the structure of DNA, and her male co-scientists who eventually received the Nobel Prize for the discovery.

Photograph 51 will run tonight, October 13 through November 4, 2012 and will be directed by Warren C. Bowles. Speaking of his debut with MJTC, Mr. Bowles touches on the topics explored in Photograph 51, "history is full of near misses and there-but-for-the-grace-of-god moments. We remember Roger Bannister, Chuck Yeager, Robert Peary, or Edmund Hillary. History usually overlooks those who preceded and often aided them, especially if those people are women, Jewish, people of color, or 'lower class'. For my debut at Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company, I get to explore that theme with a wonderful play and a very talented and exciting group of actors and designers."

Mr. Bowles is a tenured actor, director, fight choreographer, and playwright. He’s toured nationally as DR. Martin Luther King Jr., Jackie Robinson, and Paul Robeson. Locally, he’s appeared at numerous theaters including The Guthrie Theater and Mixed Blood Theatre. His directing credits include Park Square Theatre, Interact Center, Southwest State University, and Augsburg College where he also teaches.

Barbara Brooks, producing artistic director at MJTC shares, “I’m so pleased that Warren is directing for MJTC, and Photograph 51. It was only after I asked him to work on this play that I learned he’s had a long interest in the topic of DNA. Warren brings an intelligence, artistic sensitivity, and passion to this production, and it’s been great working with him.”

Minnesota Jewish Theatre Company is a non-profit organization now in its 18th year of presenting professional productions rooted in the Jewish experience and illuminating The Common humanity among us all. The audience for MJTC is almost equally divided between Jews and non-Jews.
