Minneapolis physical-theater company Live Action Set performs The 7-Shot Symphony

at the Loring Theater
Preview March 10; Opening March 11
Running through March 27, 2011
East meets West. Re-imagining of ancient myths brings contemporary relevancy to stories of antiquity-- Sergio Leone- style. Noah Bremer, Live Action Set artistic director, oversees the project from afar while touring as a performer with Cirque du Soleil and bringing an international perspective to the process of its creation.

The 7-Shot Symphony intertwines seven classic myths from Norse, West African, Greek, and Mesopotamian cultures and unfolds them in America's epic Old West, a setting of superhuman strength, heroism, and comeuppance befitting these epic tales, and illuminating that their relevance today is the same as it was for your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grand uncle. As epic themes feed mythic tales, The 7-Shot Symphony swells with stories fueled by fate, duty, love, legend, and corruption that stems from power.

Creating visually entertaining and emotionally insightful storytelling, Live Action Set continues its tradition of "physical theater" and infuses elements borrowed from cinematography, cartoons, Italy's Commedia dell'Arte, France's trateau traditions, and site-responsive theater. Performed without set or props but with a whole lot of creative ingenuity, The 7-Shot Symphony places focus on the actors' breath, body, and voices to illuminate a world of richly filled images.

Performances are supported by live, original tunes from local band Tree Party, whose style puts a contemporary twist on traditional country music.

This production is developed by Live Action Set under the creative direction of Ryan Underbakke and Matt Spring with and performed by Mark Benzel, Joey Ford, Damian Johnson, Emily King, Matt Riggs, Dustin Suggs, and Jenna Wyse. Amelia English stage manages. Musical group Tree Party-- Joey Ford, Jenna Wyse, Travis Bolton, Marc Bohn, Andy Carroll, and Raquel Sidie-Wagner-- will perform live with their violin, mandolin, electric guitar, upright acoustic bass, ol' timey western hoof sounds and chug-a-chugs. Live Action Set is led by Joanna Harmon, executive director, and Noah Bremer, artistic director.

The recently renamed Loring Theater(formerly, the Music Box Theatre) will present Live Action Set's The 7-Shot Symphony March 10-27, 2011, with shows playing Mondays-Saturdays at 8 pm, Sundays at 7 pm, and on select weekend matinees.
