Director Joe Dowling today announced that the Guthrie Theater has secured the rights for one of this season's most talked-about plays. Circle Mirror Transformation by Annie Baker just ended its sold-out run at Playwrights Horizons in New York and the Guthrie will mount a production in the Dowling Studio from May 20 through June 13 (opening May 22), under the direction of Benjamin McGovern.
The cast of Circle Mirror Transformation includes Guthrie veterans Chris Carlson (The Falls), Tracey Maloney (The Glass Menagerie), Bill McCallum (Macbeth) and Angela Timberman (Third). One additional role is yet to be cast."One of the wonderful things about having the Dowling Studio is that it allows us to be flexible and take advantage of opportunities that arise," Dowling said. "Circle Mirror Transformation is a subtle comedy that will play beautifully in the Studio, and I'm thrilled to present it with Ben directing and with this extremely talented cast of actors."The Guthrie Theater, founded in 1963, is an American center for theater performance, production, education and professional training. The Guthrie is dedicated to producing the great works of dramatic literature, developing the work of contemporary playwrights and cultivating the next generation of theater artists. Led by Director Joe Dowling since 1995, the Guthrie opened its new three-theater home on the banks of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis in June 2006.
