Chanhassen Dinner Theatres to Present HELLO, DOLLY!, Sept 2014-Feb 2015

By:

For the first time in over 22 years, Chanhassen Dinner Theatres (CDT) is pleased to announce it will produce the bright, brassy Broadway adventure, HELLO, DOLLY! on its Main Stage. The production will enjoy previews from September 5 - 11, 2014 with grand opening festivities taking place Friday, September 12.

Dolly Levi is a delightfully scheming busybody who makes her living as a matchmaker in glamorous New York City. She's out to make a match for Horace Vandergelder, the "well-known half-a-millionaire," with the charming hat maker, Irene Molloy - but in the process, Dolly snares a groom for herself. Dolly masterfully orchestrates romance and adventure in a glittering mixed up night on the town.

HELLO, DOLLY! has garnered universal praise receiving ten Tony Awards, including "Best Musical." Written by Michael Stewart, HELLO, DOLLY! is based on Thornton Wilder's farce The Matchmaker. It includes a list of bubbling songs by Jerry Herman, known for such Broadway hits including Mame and La Cage aux Folles. Some of those songs include: "Put on Your Sunday Clothes," "It Only Takes A Moment," "Before The Parade Passes By," "Elegance," "Ribbons Down My Back," "It Takes A Woman" and the show's rousing title tune hailed as one of the greatest production numbers in American musical theatre history, "Hello, Dolly!"

CDT Resident Artistic Director Michael Brindisi states, "Our goal is to bring audiences a golden musical theatre classic each season. Last year it was Fiddler on the Roof and we were ecstatic to see people respond so positively. It tells us that theatergoers are still eager to see the classics done well. Hello, Dolly is rarely professionally produced and we are happy to bring our audiences this great Midwest revival."

The production will be directed by Michael Brindisi and choreographed by Tamara Kangas Erickson. The collaboration includes the talents of Musical Director Andrew Cooke, Set Designer Nayna Ramey, Costume Designer Rich Hamson, Lighting Designer Sue Ellen Berger, Sound Designer Russ Haynes, and Production Stage Manager Susan Magnuson.

HELLO, DOLLY! is scheduled to run through February 21, 2015. It will be performed eight times weekly, Tuesday through Sunday evenings, with matinees on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Ticket prices for dinner and show: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings $72; Friday $84; Saturday evening $84; Wednesday matinee $62; Saturday matinee $66 and Sunday early evening $77. Show-only tickets are available no sooner than 10 days prior to the performance. Student rush tickets may be purchased one hour prior to the performance with valid student ID, and are based on availability. Tickets for groups of 12 or more are now on sale for HELLO, DOLLY! by calling Group Sales at 952-934-1547. Tickets for parties of fewer than 12 are available by calling the box office at 952-934-1525.
