Oct 8-9 - Unruly Music, 7:30pm, Vogel Hall, Marcus Center for the Performing Arts
Virtuoso performances of postclassical music, spanning a wide variety of genres and styles:
Oct 8 - Composer and saxophonist Matthew Burtner presents a recital of music for soprano saxophone and natural elements such as water, wind, and sand.
Oct 9 - Chicago composer and sound artist Olivia Block presents works combining piano, field recordings, found objects, and electronic sounds.
$12 general/$10 seniors and UWM faculty, staff and alumni/$8 students.

Oct 8 - Dec 12 - Greater Milwaukee Foundation's Mary L. Nohl Fund Fellowships for Individual Artists 2009 Exhibition, Opening reception Oct 8, 5-8pm, Inova/Kenilworth
Exhibition featuring works from Greater Milwaukee Foundation's Mary L. Nohl Fund Fellowships for Individual Artists recipients Peter Barrickman and Harvey Opgenorth (Established Artists category), and Kim Miller and John Riepenhoff (Emerging Artists category). Gallery hours: Wednesday & Friday - Sunday, 12 Noon-5 pm, Thursdays 12noon-8pm.

Oct 8 - Classical Guitar Concert: Roland Dyens, 7:30pm, RecitAl Hall
French interpreter, composer, arranger and improviser Dyens shares the joy of his musical talent by performing, composing and teaching across the world, and seeks to bring all forms of music to each and every one of his programs.

Oct 8 - Wind Ensemble & Symphony Band Concert, 7:30pm, Helen Bader Concert Hall
Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band Concert featuring works by Henry Tomasi, Peter Graham and Mark Camphouse.

Oct 13 - Artists Now! Aaron Hughes: Transformation and Vulnerability, 7pm, Arts Center Lecture Hall
An artist, activist, and Veteran of the Iraq War, Hughes' videos, performance art, and drawings seek to capture his wartime experience and fight the dehumanization and hate he found so prevalent while deployed.

Oct 15-24 - UWM Labworks Series: As It Is in Heaven, 7:30 Friday-Saturday; 2pm Sunday, Kenilworth Studio 508
Set in a Shaker settlement in 1830s Kentucky, the religious community is suddenly changed when a non-believer has an ecstatic experience. Arlene Hutton's play speaks to opposing belief systems as well as the status-quo establishment and those who want change. Directed by Jenny Wanasek.

The Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Professor Margery Deutsch will present its first concert of the season, featuring soloist Greg Flint on French horn.

Pete Zimmer Quartet Jazz concert with special guest artist George Garzone.

Oct 17 - UWM University Band Concert, 3pm, Helen Bader Concert Hall
The UWM University Band - conducted by Rosemary Walzer, Nicholas Castonguay, Michael Neumeyer and Krystal Solum - perform works by Alfred Reed, Andrew Boysen, Jr., Steven Reineke and Brian Beck.

Oct 17 - Trio Antigo, 3pm, RecitAl Hall
A performance from guest artists Trio Antigo. Jeannie Yu, piano, Felicia Moye, violin and Stefan Kartman, cello present piano trios from Ravel, Arensky, and Beethoven. Funded by Vilas Grant.Grant.
