Who Wants Cake? is thrilled to announce the Michigan premiere of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa's Based on a Totally True Story. Opening January 16th at Ferndale's Ringwald Theatre for an exclusive three-week engagement, this charming show is just what's needed to combat the mid-winter blues. Based on a Totally True Story chronicles the hilarious, bittersweet misadventures of twenty-something New Yorker Ethan Keene. A semi-successful comic book writer by day (he writes The Flash for DC Comics) and struggling playwright by night, Ethan's world is turned upside down when a veteran Hollywood producer decides she wants to turn one of Ethan's unproduced plays into a big-budget horror movie-possibly starring Nicole Kidman. With that tasty carrot clouding his vision, Ethan struggles to be a loving, supportive, giving partner to his boyfriend Michael Sullivan, a Village Voice reporter and budding novelist. On top of which, Ethan's lovable dad announces that he's leaving Ethan's mom for a married woman-and can he please stay with Ethan and Michael until he finds a new place to live? Hearts are broken, lessons learned, and dreams deferred in this quirky, offbeat romantic comedy of manners.

Who Wants Cake? opened the doors to their resident home, The Ringwald, in May 2007 with Fatal Attraction: A Greek Tragedy. Quickly, The Ringwald became a mainstay of Detroit's theatre community. Since opening their doors, Who Wants Cake? has been offering up slice after slice of successful shows including Southern Baptist Sissies, Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical, Killer Joe, The Bad Seed, The Book of Liz, Rent, and Evil Dead: The Musical. Who Wants Cake? was named the 2008 and 2009 Best Theatre Group in Channel 4's Vote 4 The Best contest and the 2009 Best Theatrical Troupe by Real Detroit.

Tickets for Based on a Totally True Story are $20.00 on Saturday nights at 8PM, $15.00 for Sunday matinees at 3PM and Monday 8PM performances are HALF OFF normal ticket price at $10.00 a ticket.
