McCree Theatre Seeks Actors for THE PIANO LESSON, 8/8 & 8/9

The "New" McCree Theatre is holding auditions for the August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, The Piano Lesson, Monday and Tuesday, August 8 & 9, 2011 at 7:00p.m., at the theatre, 5005 Cloverlawn Drive. The cast requires five (5) black males, ages 25 - 55, three (3) black females, 25-45, and one (1) black female, 11-years of age. All interested persons should come with a prepared monologue.

Set in 1936 Pittsburgh during the aftermath of the Great Depression, The Piano Lesson follows the lives of the Sutter family in the Doaker Charles household and an heirloom, the infamous piano. The play focuses on the arguments between a brother and a sister who have different ideas on what to do with the piano they own. The brother, Boy Willie, is a sharecropper who wants to sell the piano to buy the land that his ancestors had toiled on as slaves while the sister, Berniece, remains emphatic about keeping it. The piano shows the carved faces of their great-grandfather's wife and son during the days of their enslavement.

The Piano Lesson is directed by Faye Turner Johnson, who returns to McCree Theatre for the first time since the 1980's. The play will run September 29 - October 15, 2011. Call (810) 787-2200 for information.
