Matrix Theatre Company Seeking New Executive Director

By:
The Matrix Theatre Company Board of Directors announced today that it will conduct a national search for an Executive Director to replace Mary Ann McCourt. Ms. McCourt will transition to an advisory role during the search so that she may focus on her family.

Kate Brennan, marketing consultant to Matrix, will serve as the interim executive director during this transitional period until a permanent replacement is secured.

"We cannot thank Mary Ann enough for her time and dedication to Matrix," said Jessica Pappas, President of the Matrix Board of Directors. "She has been a wonderful addition to the team. We are confident with the help of the staff, search committee, and Mary Ann that we will find a strong candidate for the position."

Matrix Theatre Company, Southwest Detroit's premier destination for community-driven professional and educational theatre, has established tremendous momentum over the last year. In June, Matrix celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a gala fundraising event, and more recently, it opened its current season to critical acclaim and success at the box office. 2.5 Minute Ride which wrapped up earlier this month received a four star review from the Detroit Free Press and closed its run to sold out houses and an added performance.

The theatre looks forward to continuing its success into the New Year when it opens in February the world premiere production of Intentions, a play by metro-Detroit native Abbey Fenbert. The laugh-out-loud comedy will feature the outstanding production quality Matrix patrons have come to expect while addressing important issues of our time.

Matrix's Mainstage Season closes with an original devised production, Dream Deferred: Detroit, 1967. This production premiering in June of 2017 will be generated from audio recordings taken during and in the immediate aftermath of the 1967 uprising in Detroit, and it marks the 50th Anniversary of that tumultuous time in Detroit history. The theatre also looks forward to hosting an event fundraiser this June at the Detroit Historical Museum featuring a performance from this original production and guest speaker Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Stephen Henderson.

"Be sure to catch one of our upcoming wonderful shows this season," said Pappas.
"We are looking forward to Matrix's bright future for next year and many years to come."
