Matrix School of Theatre Winter Workshops to Highlight Detroit Dreams

By:

It's curtains up for the Matrix School of Theatre, as they make final preparations for their winter classes with the City of Detroit front and center as the theme. Classes meet Saturdays 10 am-1 pm at Matrix Theatre Company January 23, 30; February 6, 13, 27; March 5, 12 with a final performance on March 19. Call Amy Thomas at 313 967 0999, ext. 3 for further information.

Young theatre enthusiasts ages 8 - 11 will participate in classes with the theme, Our Diverse Stories. They will write and stage a play which shows how they can best contribute to the beautiful City of Detroit. These young artists will tell their stories and mold them into a play about what makes our city work best, and how they can be a part of it. Join us as we share, reflect, and create!

Thespians ages 11 - 14 will participate in a series of classes entitled, Our Diverse Dreams where they will share their dreams for Detroit and how they can make them a reality. By utilizing music, poetry, and monologues, they will create a one-of-a-kind performance that shows the audience how to appreciate our city in its current state, while looking toward its bright future. Join us as we work together to make our dreams become our reality!

The Matrix School of Theatre engages youth artists ages 5 - 18 to write and perform original plays through our unique, learner-centered approach.

The Matrix Teen Company consists of high school students from the Detroit area who write, produce, and act in a full season of play each year that draws attention to crucial community issues. Past productions have addressed issues such as bullying, the public education system, immigration, gang violence, and much more. If you are interested in auditioning, or if you would like more information about Matrix Teen Company, give us a call!

Celebrating 25 years as a non-profit community-based theatre, Matrix Theatre Company is located in southwest Detroit and uses the transformative power of theatre to change lives, build community and foster social justice.
