Magenta Giraffe Theatre Company Presents LAST OF THE BOYS, 3/11 - 4/2

By:

Magenta Giraffe Theatre Company of Detroit presents the Michigan premiere of Last of the Boys, by Steven Dietz, directed by Frannie Shepherd-Bates (Artistic Director, Magenta Giraffe Theatre Co.). The show runs from March 11-April 2, 2011. Tickets are $15-$18, with pay-what-you-can tickets available to all performances. Tickets may be reserved by phone at 313-408-7269 or at www.magentagiraffe.org.

Without sermonizing, and with a great deal of warmth and humor, Last of the Boys examines an all too familiar, still-open wound: the Vietnam War.

As two veterans try to sort through the detritus of their past - one through a relationship with a mysterious woman clad all in black; and the other thorough ethereal encounters with the ghosts of a young soldier and Robert McNamara - the audience realizes that until this massive wrinkle in our national history has been truly ironed out, the country and its people will not be able to move on. The legacy of Vietnam is brought vividly and sharply into focus in Dietz's jarring, humorous, extraordinary play.

The cast includes Dave Davies (Warren), Matt Lockwood (Royal Oak), Alan Madlane (Ferndale), Lisa Melinn (Royal Oak) and Linda Rabin Hammell (Philadelphia, PA). Gwen Lindsay exhibits her scenic design; lighting by Neil Koivu; costumes by Lauren Montgomery.

Magenta Giraffe Theatre Company's production of Last of the Boys will take place at 1515 Broadway, Detroit, MI 48226. Reservations are available via phone at 313-408-7269, at www.magentagiraffe.org, or at the door the day of the performance. Cash or check only.
