LYSISTRATA JONES Makes Michigan Premiere at Meadow Brook Theatre February 12 - March 9

By:

The basketball team at Athens University hasn't won a game in more than 30 years. The worst part in transfer student Lysistrata Jones' opinion is that no one seems to mind! "Lyssie J" sets out to change that, rallying the cheerleaders to inspire their boyfriends to win, she announces that the cheerleaders will stop "giving it up" until the team wins.

Based on the on the classic comedy "Lysistrata" by Aristophanes, "Lysistrata Jones" bounces the ancient story into the 21st century without missing a beat. With music and lyrics by Lewis Flinn and a book by Douglas Carter Beane, "Lysistrata Jones" runs February 12 through March 9 at Meadow Brook Theatre, the professional theatre on the campus of Oakland University.

"It's a battle between the sexes that has lasted nearly 2,500 years," MBT Artistic Director Travis Walter says. "It's a great opportunity to introduce our friends and patrons to a fun musical update of an ancient story."

The cast of "Lysistrata Jones" introduces a team of new talent to the MBT audiences. Lyssie J is played by Kara Dombrowski while original "Lysistrata Jones" Broadway cast member, Teddy Toye is her put-off boyfriend, Mick. The rest of the cast includes: Tamara Anderson, Karen Burthwright, Kathryn Terza, Minami Yusui, Tim Dolan, Jason Williams, Michael De Souza, Jake Wood, Hannah Dubner, Ben Holtzman, Lizzie Rainville and Dave Roy.

MBT Artistic Director Travis Walter directs, with choreography by Raquis Petree and Minami Yusui and musical direction by Greg Kenna. Terry Carpenter is the stage manager, with set design by Brian Kessler, costumes by Corey Globke, lighting by Reid G. Johnson and sound by Mike Duncan.
