Grosse Point Theatre's Auditions For R&H's THE KING AND I Held 6/20, 6/21

Director, Susan P. Davis will hold auditions for the Grosse Pointe Theatre production of Rogers and Hammersteins' The King and I On Saturday, June 20th the children's auditions will be held from 11 am to 1:30 pm and adults' auditions will be held from 2 pm-4 pm. On Sunday, June 21st, auditions for both children and adults will be held at 2 pm-5 pm. Auditions will be held at the Grosse Pointe Theatre rehearsal studio, 315 Fisher Road, between Maumee/Grosse Pointe Boulevard and Jefferson/Lake Shore in Grosse Pointe.

The show features the timeless music of Rogers and Hammerstein in including, Hello, Young Lovers; Shall We Dance; Getting to Know You and Something Wonderful. Rehearsals will start September 9th on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7 pm and Saturdays at 9:30am at 315 Fisher Road, Grosse Pointe. Children will only be required on Saturdays until mid-October. Be prepared to notify the staff of all schedule conflicts at auditions.

Performance dates are November 8, 2pm, Nov. 11-14, 8 pm, Nov. 15 2 pm, Nov. 18-21, 8pm & Nov. 22, 2 pm. The show will be performed at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial in the Fries Auditorium.

PARTS TO BE CAST: Anna - (lead) - Appearance in 30 s- early 40s; proud, intelligent, unsure yet courageous, empathetic; King - (lead) - 40s-50s; proud, arrogant, intelligent, must command stage; (baldness not required); Tuptim - (support) - 15-30; Young wife of King; sweet, innocent, graceful; Lady Thiang - (support) - 30-50; Senior wife of King, graceful, dignified; Lun Tha - (support) - TupTim's lover. 17-30; Louis - (featured) Age 7-12; Anna's Son; Prince Chululongkorn - (featured) Age 7-12; Son of King; Captain Orton - (featured) - 35-60; weathered; The Kralahome - (featured) - 35-60; Advisor to King; Sir Edward - (featured) - 35-60; British guest of King; 10 Royal Wives - Varying Ages - Background in choral voice helpful; 6-10 King's Children - 6-14 yrs - Both boys & girls; 6 Palace Guards - Younger men - varying a.ges.

Auditioners must come prepared to sing selections from the show. Complete details about audition songs can be found on the Grosse Pointe Theatre website at www.gpt.org. Audition information is also available at the Grosse Pointe Theatre ticket office, 315 Fisher Road, Grosse Pointe from 10 am to 1 pm Monday through Saturday.

Those unable to attend auditions may contact the Director or Producer to arrange an alternate time. Non-GPT members must join Grosse Pointe Theatre, if cast. Scripts are available in advance by calling Grosse Pointe Theatre at 313-886-8901 for a $20 refundable deposit.
