The Tony Award winning musical, Falsettos, will open the 2017-2018 season for St. Dunstan's Theatre Guild of Cranbrook on Friday October 6th. The show will run October 6 - 22, 2017.

Falsettos is a hilarious and poignant look at the modern family. With a book by William Finn and James Lapine, this show revolves around the life of a charming, intelligent, neurotic gay man named Marvin, his wife, lover, about-to-be-Bar-Mitzvahed son, their psychiatrist, and the lesbians next door. Love can tell a million stories, and that is exactly what this show will convey.

Director, Andrew McMechan (Birmingham), is a familiar face around St. Dunstan's and has both appeared in and directed many shows over the years. He is looking forward to the opening of this one. While Falsettos is set in the 1970s, McMechan explains, "the show serves up themes that are universal and even more apropos to our times. It is a quest story, and it's intrepid 'teeny tiny band' are in search of a community that will accept them and a family structure that will support their alternative lifestyles. The first appearance of the yet-unnamed AIDS epidemic is the tragedy that brings them together into a new family based on mutual love and support, with the strength to face whatever comes next. Love, in a word, saves the day."

This production includes a stellar cast with many talented actors including: Jay Smith (Royal Oak) as Marvin, Bailey Boudreau (Ferndale) as Whizzer, Lynette Yeager (Utica) as Trina, Stephanie Kanak as Dr. Charlotte, Megan Leila as Cordelia, Jeff LaMouthe (Rochester Hills) as Mendel, and Grace Trivax (West Bloomfield) as Jason.

Smith and Yeager are no strangers to the show and are actually reprising their roles from a 1994 production that was done at Stagecrafters in Royal Oak. Kanak is also reprising her role as Dr. Charlotte, which she played in a student production at the University of Michigan.

Rated PG-13 for adult language and content, St. Dunstan's will present Falsettos on October 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21, and 22. All shows begin at 8:00 p.m, except for the Sunday performances on the 8th, 15th, and 22nd which begin at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 each for adults and $18 each for students and seniors. St. Dunstan's is located at 400 Lone Pine Road in Bloomfield Hills.
