EISENHOWER DANCE: THE LIGHT SHOW Comes to Wharton Center, 10/30

By:

Eisenhower Dance is a nationally-touring contemporary dance company based in metropolitan Detroit. With support from co-commissioners, the Wharton Center (East Lansing, MI) and the Detroit Opera House (Detroit, MI), Eisenhower Dance mounted a special production, entitled THE LIGHT SHOW. EISENHOWER DANCE: THE LIGHT SHOW, part of the Dance at Wharton Center series, will be featured on Thursday, October 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cobb Great Hall.

Tickets are available online at whartoncenter.com, at the Auto-Owners Insurance Ticket Office, or by calling 1-800-WHARTON. From $20, plus applicable fees. MSU Student tickets available for $15.

THE LIGHT SHOW cleverly pairs four choreographers with five lighting designers. The result is five dances where the central focus of the work utilizes unique lighting design and equipment. The dancers' movement was developed in tandem with the varying light treatments, which created breathtaking images that reflect on life and human relationships. "My goal was to develop a diverse evening that includes a range of choreographic styles, from drama and passion to comedy and light-hearted works," states Laurie Eisenhower, Artistic Director. "The designers all have tremendous experience in dance lighting and have created some amazing work. Rather than bringing the designer in after the dance was choreographed, it was fun to let them be such an integral part of the creative process."

Considered one of the finest dance repertory ensembles in the nation, EISENHOWER DANCE is dedicated to the performance of a diverse range of works by both established and emerging choreographers; the choreographer and designers for THE LIGHT SHOW are from different regions all across the country. THE LIGHT SHOW includes a free insight preview 45 minutes prior to the show as well as a post-show question and answer session with the dancers and creative team, allowing audience members to interact and exchange feedback with the artists.
