The City of Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation Cultural Arts Program presents author Patricia Camburn Zick (who writes under the name of P.C. Zick) to discuss her book, Civil War Journal of a Union Soldier, on Friday, June 9, 1-2:30 p.m. at the Ann Arbor Senior Center, 1320 Baldwin Ave. This cultural arts program will also include Civil War music by The Dodworth Duo presenting The Music of the America Past. Light refreshments will be provided by event sponsor, StoryPoint senior living community in Saline.

Admission is $8 for the general public; Ann Arbor Senior Center members, $6. Preregistration is encouraged, but you can also drop in the day of the event, providing space is available. To register, call 734.793.6250 or visit https://secure.rec1.com/MI/city-of-ann-arbor/catalog. Select the program location, Ann Arbor Senior Center, proceed to "cultural arts," and click on the link "Civil War Journal of a Union Soldier."

This is Zick's most recent nonfiction book and is the publication of her great grandfather's memoir. At the June 9 event, she will discuss the book, her great grandfather's connection to the Michigan area and to Laura S. Haviland, the great abolitionist and founder of the Raisin Institute, who was one of several who came to see the young soldier off to war at the train station in Adrian. Based on the journals her grandfather kept, the book provides a glimpse into the minutiae of a soldier's life.

Zick describes herself as a storyteller no matter what genre she writes including romance, contemporary fiction and nonfiction. She's won various awards for her essays, columns, editorials, articles and fiction.
