AMERCAN IDOL's Ruben Studdard Headlines DPTV's Detroit Performs LIVE! Tomorrow Image

American Idol winner and Grammy nominee Ruben Studdard will bring his star power to the 3rd annual Detroit Performs LIVE, Detroit Public Television and WRCJ's celebration of Motor City music, at The Fillmore Detroit on Nov. 3. The evening's music director will once again be the legendary jazz flutist, Alexander Zonjic. The Motor City Horns will join Studdard and Zonjic, along with an all-star lineup of Detroit musical talent for an evening of R&B, Motown, rock, jazz and more.

An R&B, pop and gospel sensation, Studdard captured first place in the second season of American Idol in 2003. That helped catapult his first album, "Soulful," over the 1 million mark in sales even before its release date. A single from that album, "Flying Without Wings," climbed to Number 2 on the U.S. music charts. Studdard has been touring, recording and captivating audiences ever since.

The rest of the Detroit Performs LIVE bill is packed with Motor City musical muscle:

· The Miracles Revue featuring Mark Scott, who keeps the spirit of The Miracles alive with his renditions of Smokey Robinson hits

· Ethan Daniel Davidson, one of Detroit's finest singer-songwriters, who is a master at weaving moving lyrics with deeply expressive music

· Jill Jack, whose folk-tinged rock has won 41 Detroit Music Awards over her long-standing career

· Tom Butwin, a singer-songwriter-guitarist, who brings a unique and powerful voice to a wide variety of music

· Lady Sunshine, born near the Mississippi Delta, this lady knows how to sing the blues!

· The show's maestro, Alexander Zonjic, an award-winning jazz flutist, whose career spans four decades, playing with the biggest names in the music business

DPTV's MiWeek anchor Christy McDonald will host the event.

The concert begins at 8 p.m., with tickets starting at $25.

WRCJ 90.9 FM will kick-off the evening with a live remote radio broadcast from 6:30-8 p.m. featuring its weekly Friday night jazz program, "Maxology," hosted by the popular Maxine Michaels.

There will also be a special VIP event prior to the concert, beginning at 6:30 p.m.; the $360 tickets include main floor seating, strolling dinner, signature cocktails, dessert bar and valet.

The concert will be broadcast live on DPTV (WTVS-Channel 56) and live-streamed at DetroitPerforms.org from 8-9:30 p.m., thanks in part to funding by the Masco Foundation.
