When a Persian Sultan discovers that his wife has been unfaithful, he immediately rules that all women in his kingdom be punished, assuming they are just as deceitful. Due to his power as Sultan, the entire kingdom complies, except for one young woman named Scheherazade. She goes to the Sultan and begins weaving her tales of intrigue and adventure, hoping he will let go of his anger and learn to forgive.

ALADDIN AND OTHER ENCHANTING TALES comes to Wharton Center on January 14, 2014. Tickets are $12, plus applicable fees, and are available online at whartoncenter.com, at the Auto-Owners Insurance Ticket Office, or by calling 1-800-WHARTON.

Pulled from 9th- to 13th-century Persian storytelling, ALADDIN AND OTHER ENCHANTING TALES chronicles the legends of Persia's most heroic champions. Audiences will be reintroduced to Aladdin and his magic lamp, taken on an adventure across the seven seas with Sinbad to battle giants and rescue an enchanted bird, and will flee the threat of robbers with Ali Baba and his servant girl - all told through the eyes of our narrator, Scheherazade, as she relays them to her Sultan.

The productions of each story are brought to life through the mimed performances of Enchantment Theater's best actors, who use their silent movements and gestures to portray these thrilling tales. Beautifully crafted masks, dramatic special effects, and enormous puppets - including a mystical blue genie - are all set to the iconic Scheherazade symphony by Russian composer, Rimsky-Korsakov.
