A platform for world premieres, the opening night of the 18th Annual New Music Festival features never-before-heard music including solo, electro-acoustic and chamber works composed by emerging composers from Lynn University’s Conservatory of Music.
Not your traditional master class, join the innovative Katherine Balch for a special musical experience. Inspired by the intimacy of quotidian objects, found sounds and natural processes, Balch has been described as "some kind of musical Thomas Edison—you can just hear her tinkering around in her workshop, putting together new sounds and textural ideas."
Join us for a live recording session featuring work from a past composer-in-residence. Highlighting extraordinary composers of past years expands our offerings to the student body and community while strengthening the festival’s commitment to bring new music to life. Dress appropriately—you may be featured in a video.
Called "spellbinding" (Seen and Heard International) with "glow and poise and electric tension" (The Daily Telegraph), the music of composer Katherine Balch captures the magic of everyday sounds, inviting audiences into a sonic world characterized by imagination, discovery and textural lyricism. Her work has been commissioned and performed by leading ensembles including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the London Sinfonietta, l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and many more. For this intimate event, she will present a sampling of her chamber works performed by the phenomenal young artists of the Conservatory of Music.
