Following in the footsteps of Broadway in New York the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall offers "Kids' Night on Broadway" for the opening night performance of Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus' global smash hit musical MAMMA MIA!

"Kids' Night on Broadway" originated in New York for the purpose of introducing Kids from the ages of 6 to 18 an opportunity to experience Broadway in a big way. In association with Producers and Presenters of Equity Broadway shows Kids' Night on Broadway has now been extended to touring venues presenting equity shows in their season. The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall will present two equity shows this season, Mamma Mia and Xanadu. With the purchase of one adult ticket to the 8 p.m. performance on Tuesday, Feb. 23, for Mamma Mia and the Tuesday, April 20 performance of Xanadu, the buyer receives one free ticket for a patron ages 6-18. The offer is limited to 100 tickets, with select seating. "Tickets are selling briskly," says Van Wezel Executive Director Mary Bensel. "This is a great opportunity to introduce children to the joys of live musical theater."

Kids' Night on Broadway ticket holders also will be admitted to a special "Meet the Cast" event after the performance. The get-together, in the Grand Foyer, includes free cake donated by A Slice of Heaven and beverages.

"MAMMA MIA! is a feel-good, bring-the-whole-family, mega-musical entertainment!" wrote reviewer Matt Byrne of the Sunday Mail in Australia, echoing the rave reviews worldwide.

Tickets to the shows at the Van Wezel for Mamma Mia are $55-$90 and $45-$70 for Xanadu (with a limited number of "smart seats" priced at $30). In addition to the opening night performance of MAMMA MIA! performances at the Van Wezel are: Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 8 p.m.; Thursday, Feb. 25 at 8 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The Sarasota performances of Mamma Mia and Xanadu are sponsored by Wilde Lexus of Sarasota and ABC-7.
