The Lyric Presents Marcos Vega Quintet & More

By:

Marcos Vega Quintet plays Friday, October 22 - 7:00 p.m.

Prepare to be swept away by the richly melodic sounds of the Marcos Vega Quintet, featuring the musical mastery of Vega himself on the Paraguayan harp.

Vega has been delighting listeners for decades with his signature style and unique playing technique on what is now the most popular folk harp in the world. He has performed for dignitaries, presidents and heads of government, and has toured throughout the United States, Mexico and Central and South America.

Vega's concert at the Lyric will include a wide range of musical fare, from theatrical selections ("Don't Cry for Me Argentina," "A Time for Us") to well-known standards ("Somewhere My Love," "What a Wonderful World") to international tunes (such as "Memories of Paraguay" - "Recordando Paraguay" and "Malaguena") and original Vega compositions.

Accompanying Vega will be members of his quintet, each a celebrated artist in his own right: Grammy Award-winning arranger/vocalist/bass guitarist Paul Hoyle; Clark Hower on jazz guitar, Roget Pontbriand on jazz trumpet, and Rey Monroig on drums and percussion. The Marcos Vega Quintet's "Tour of World Music" promises to be a delight from start to finish!

The Nouveaux Honkies, Fresh Catch & the Kregs
Saturday, October 23 - 8:00 p.m.

Spend a Saturday night and savor a sampling from some of the best bands on the Treasure Coast . . . brought together on the Lyric Stage.

Headliners The Nouveaux Honkies originated in Port Salerno in 2006, and quickly caught southeast Florida's attention with their signature combination of blues, swing and country. In a few short years, this violin, guitar, bass and drum quartet has exploded out of the gate. They've released two CDs to rave reviews, and they now tour throughout Florida, the Carolinas, New York, Washington, DC, Maine, Massachusetts and beyond, winning a growing following wherever they go. Put simply, The Nouveaux Honkies are Roots and Roll that Rocks!

Fresh Catch hails straight out of Stuart, Florida, and the band's energetic live performances and catchy hooks make them a local favorite. Specializing in a heavy reggae sound, Fresh Catch has released two CDs ("Foul Hooked" and "So Far"), and has shared the stage with nationally touring acts like Pato Banton, Badfish, Scotty Don't, the Supervillains and more.

Take Ron Hart's original tunes and flowing lead work on Allman Brother instrumentals and Phish melodies, sprinkle in influences from such wide-ranging musicians as MiLes Davis, the Grateful Dead, Stevie Ray Vaughan and The Who . . . and you've got the Kregs. A Kregs jam session is a presentation steaming with raw emotion and energy, and is guaranteed to leave you wanting more.

Three distinctive sounds come together for one incredible evening! Don't miss it!
