The Cultural Council of Palm Beach County brings diverse artistic styles together in Southern Exposure: New Work Now, June 20 through August 16, with a special preview party this Thursday, June 19 at 5:30 p.m. Highlighting the work of emerging and mid-career artists, the show integrates visual and performance art that demonstrates varying artistic perspectives, some tackling international issues currently in the news.
"The convergence of curatorial styles in Southern Exposure has produced a cross-section of the current art world's process, thought and method," says Cultural Council Manager of Artist Services, Nichole M. Hickey. "The experimental painting techniques, site-specific installations and performance art demonstrate that Palm Beach County has a strong group of artists who deserve a closer look." Artists featured span the spectrum of artistic styles with painting: Bjorn Davidson, Asif Hoque, Eduardo Mendieta, Henriett Anri Michel and Lisa Rockford; mixed media: Molly Aubry, Linda Behar, Raheleh Filsoofi, Jill Lavetsky and Kristin Miller Hopkins; photography: Don Fils, Monica McGivern and Nick Paliughi; sculpture: Amy Gross and Woody Othello; drawing: Andrew Gilmore; and Steve Backhus' performance and installation art. "Our exhibition will shine a light on the talented artists in our community who stretch beyond the expected to create lasting works that reflect our times," says Cultural Council President and CEO, Rena Blades.Gallery hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.Image Credit: Lisa Rockford, Vein/Vain Mapping, Landscape Series, 2014, Oil on wood, 8 x 14 inches
