Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF (OST) celebrates the 100th birthday of American playwright Tennessee Williams through its popular free reading series, Three By Tenn. The series begins with Williams' best-known tale of struggle and survival, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, on Sunday, September 25 at 7PM.  

Under the stifling heat of the Mississippi Delta, the Pollitt family gathers together to celebrate the birthday of Big Daddy, the family patriarch. This demonstration of family togetherness is quickly revealed for the sham that it is as relationships start to fracture and eventually explode. Directed by Paula Rossman, Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, the Pulitzer Prize-winning play about mendacity and money, secrets and sins, features an all-star cast of Orlando audience favorites. 

Orlando actors Jamie-Lyn Hawkins, Mark Whitten*, Elizabeth Murff and Ron Schneider* bring the iconic family members Maggie, Brick, Big Mama and Big Daddy to life, along with fellow cast members John Connon*, Jim Cundiff, Ryan Czerwonko, Ame Livingston*, Megan Pickrell and Michael Shenenfelt. The stage management team includes Blu Fogarty and Adrienne Forsythe. *Actors appearing courtesy of Actors' Equity Association. 

"Cat on a Hot Tin Roof remains one of Williams' most popular and accessible plays due to the universality of a family trying alternately to protect each other from the truth while making each other face - an ultimately bleak - reality, " said director Paula Rossman. "Through the reading series, we're hoping the play's message will resonate with our younger audiences causing a new generation to discover this American classic." 

There is no charge for this event and reservations are not required; however, limited seating is available. The reading will be held in the Margeson Theater at the John & Rita Lowndes Shakespeare Center in Loch Haven Park.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof - September 25, 2011

Set in the Mississippi plantation home of wealthy cotton tycoon Big Daddy Pollitt, Williams' work tells the story of a Southern family in crisis. When the family gathers to celebrate Big Daddy's 65th birthday, the reunion jogs intense memories and a shockwave of truths is revealed for a father and son.

Biting and brutal, lyrical and lurid, Williams masterfully unfolds his story of local boy gone bad Chance Wayne and his temperamental companion, faded movie star Princess Kosmonopolis, amidst a backdrop of small town narrow-mindedness and heightened racial tensions. Sweet Bird of Youth crackles with sexual tension and wicked humor, creating an absorbing play about crushed dreams and devastating failure. 

A Streetcar Named Desire - March 11, 2012
Tennessee Williams' iconic masterpiece about a torrid love triangle set in 1940's New Orleans steams up the Margeson Stage. Delicate Southern Belle Blanche DuBois arrives at her sister Stella's French Quarter row house where she encounters her sweat-stained brother-in-law, Stanley Kowalski. As passions erupt, A Streetcar Named Desire paints an absorbing tragedy of a woman struggling against a harsh world, creating a night of compelling, intensely emotional theater.
