THE PEKING ACROBATS Comes To The Van Wezel 2/11

By: Jan. 17, 2011

Get ready for THE PEKING ACROBATS to push the envelope of human possibility at the VAN WEZEL PERFORMING ARTS HALL, Friday, February 11 at 8 p.m.

For centuries, Chinese acrobats have continued to perfect an evolving folk art form. Because of the unusual and difficult nature of the feats involved, high honor is conferred upon those skilled enough to become acrobats. Since their Western debut in 1986, THE PEKING ACROBATS have redefined audience perceptions of Chinese acrobatics. As a troupe of China's most gifted tumblers, contortionists, jugglers, cyclists, and gymnasts, THE PEKING ACROBATS perform daring maneuvers including wire walking, foot juggling and incredible balancing feats that showcase their tremendous skill and ability. Their high-tech special effects and festive pageantry create an atmosphere that is reminiscent of a Chinese carnival. For the first time ever, THE WOMEN'S PEACE ORCHESTRA OF CHINA will share the stage with THE PEKING ACROBATS, adding another dimension to the Silver Anniversary Tour!

THE PEKING ACROBATS have built a tremendous reputation, performing not only on stages around the globe with some of the world's top orchestras, but also on many popular television shows, including Nickelodeon's Unfabulous, Ellen's Really Big Show, and The Wayne Brady Show. Members of the group have also appeared on Stephen Soderbergh's Ocean's 11, Ocean's 12, and Ocean's 13. The incredible popularity and longevity of THE PEKING ACROBATS as a performing entity is a testament to the awesome power of their performances. Their reputation continues to grow with each passing year, refining their unique brand of ancient artistry and inspiring crowds of all ages, from all walks of life, performance by performance. "The things these kids can do before breakfast...seem to push the envelope of human possibility. If daring dexterity turns you on, this is the show that will probably twist you around in your seat...it's amazing and exciting." -Clive Barnes, New York Post.
