West Palm Beach's only resident professional theatre, Palm Beach Dramaworks announced Eugene O'Neill's last completed drama, "A Moon for the Misbegotten" will kick off its 9th anniversary season on Friday, October 17th (8PM) at their intimate downtown theatre (322 Banyan Boulevard.)  The 2008-09 slate of productions will continue with a distinguished roster of plays including "The Chairs" by Eugene Ionesco, "The Weir" by Conor McPherson and the Florida premiere production of  "At Home At The Zoo" by Edward Albee.

"A season featuring plays written by O'Neill, Albee, Ionesco, and McPherson, is one filled with intense, challenging, and intellectually stimulating works by some of the most renowned classic and contemporary playwrights of the last sixty years.  We're pleased to present these seldom produced, thought-provoking plays to South Florida audiences," said William Hayes, Founder and Producing Artistic Director.

With a mid-October debut, the season opens with one of the greatest plays from the American drama canon, Eugene O'Neill's "A Moon for the Misbegotten." Set during a long moonlit night, the play focuses on James Tyrone and Josie Hogan, played by Todd Allen Durkin and Kati Brazda, who fueled by drink and lust, find companionship and solace, as they reveal to each other the grief, longing and unrequited love they've hidden from the world. The production will also feature Peter Haig and Michael McKeever (October 17th - November 30th).

The second offering follows with a new translation of Eugene Ionesco's "The Chairs," a landmark play, seen through the cock-eyed view of an aging couple adrift in an expiring universe. With a twist ending, Ionesco's farce, starring Dan Leonard and Barbara Bradshaw, may raise new doubt in the never-ending quest for the meaning of life. (December 19 - February 1st).

Continuing on February 20th, Conor McPherson's Olivier Award-winning play "The Weir," will serve up chilling ghost stories set in the local tavern of the Irish countryside. Starring Broadway and television veteran Frank Converse, Dennis Creaghan and Lena Kaminsky, the play celebrates old fashioned story-telling and the sacred feelings that bind good friends. (February 20th - April 5th).

The winter season concludes with "At Home At The Zoo," by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize- winner Edward Albee.  Fresh from its Off-Broadway debut last fall, the drama delves deeper into his acclaimed play The Zoo Story by adding a first-act, Homelife. In this play, featuring Todd Allen Durkin, Margery Lowe, and Christopher Swan, primal magnetism and exploration is taken to a new level as Peter makes that fateful journey where he meets Jerry in Central Park. (April 24th - June 14th). Dramaworks reminds us that all casting is subject to change.

The performance schedule is as follows: Evening performances are Wednesday through Saturday at 8PM with select Sundays at 7PM; and Matinee performances are on Saturday and Sunday at 2PM with select Fridays at 3PM.

Individual tickets are $42 for evening performances and $40 for matinees. Group rates for 20 or more, and discounted season subscriptions are also available. The theatre is located in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach, at 322 Banyan Boulevard, between Dixie Highway and Olive Avenue, Florida 33401.

Parking is offered across the street for a nominal fee, or in the City Garage on the corner of Olive Avenue and Banyan Boulevard for $1.00 per hour with the first hour free.
