New Exhibition 'X x X' to Open This Weekend at Cultural Council of Palm Beach County

By:

The adage "Good things come in small packages" will be expressed artistically in the new "X x X" exhibition opening tomorrow at the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County in Downtown Lake Worth. The exhibition will run through March 18 in the Cultural Council main gallery.

The Cultural Council hosted a Call to Create for this juried exhibition, in which every artwork is exactly 10 x 10 x 1 inches in size. Artists were asked to create work in any medium, on any subject, bound only by the limitation of size. All artists live or work in Palm Beach County, and they include students at various levels from grade school to college, senior citizens and amateur and professional artists. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Gallery visitors will see works across several media such as paintings, prints, drawings, photography, collage, textiles, metal, assemblage, ceramic relief and mixed media, created by 68 professional artists and 32 students from Palm Beach County elementary, middle and high schools.

The Cultural Council invited Bruce Helander, who has been a full-time artist and critic in Palm Beach County for the past 30 years, to jury this exhibition. Helander is an esteemed artist whose work is represented in more than 50 permanent public collections including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. As a critic, he writes for The Huffington Post, Sculpture magazine, Art Hive magazine, One Art Nation, and others. He is a seasoned juror and curator of museum exhibitions and serves on the board of the Center for Creative Education.

A Member's Preview Party will take place this evening, Thursday, February 2, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Admission to the preview is free for members of the Cultural Council and $20 for non-members. Trunk Show Artists will include Makerware and Susan Peck. For tickets to the preview, contact Debbie Calabria, dcalabria@palmbeachculture.com, (561) 472-3341. The exhibition is free of charge starting tomorrow.

"X x X" is generously sponsored by PNC Arts Alive, Diva-Licious Cake House and Tito's Handmade Vodka. Prize money was generously donated by Anonymous and the Michael and Annie Falk Foundation.
